The food is really good. My rating is about the cleanliness of the place. I went here with my dad and had a great time. So I was surprised when I went in to the bathroom to find the most disgusting bathroom I've ever seen. And I mean worse then a fourth of July portapotty. There was some bodily fluids of more the one kind on the walls. I told the women afterwards and she could care less. I felt sick afterwards because I started thinking about the staff using that restroom then serving me. Will never go back just because the cleanliness alone.

Horrid. The app wont allow me to write a review with no stars. I have never had an experience at any restaurant quite like the one I had at Thai Moon. On a business trip to Cedar Rapids I decided on a Thai food dinner. We ordered two entrees and an appetizer of chicken satay. We waited an exceedingly long time for the waitress to bring out the appetizer. When it arrived, I thought the color was odd; it was red, instead of the usual yellow found in chicken satay. Bright red and not even warm. I tore off one piece which was tough; chewy; and had the texture and flavor of pork. COLD, RED, SKEWERED PORK. Straight off a cheap Chinese buffet After examination, and without mentioning anything to my dining partner, I asked them what it tasted like...the immediate response was 'pork'. It was clearly and obviously pork. I sent it back and another employee was completely rude and continued to pass it off as chicken and continued to argue it was not pork. We did not wait for our entrees. They were rude and the food (what we had) was horrible. I wondered what would have happened if I'd had ordered sushi...'this sushi taste like raw chicken', 'no it's tuna'; 'no it's raw chicken'; 'no it's tuna'....? Rude and unacceptable. Look elsewhere.

This used to be a favorite of mine, but the Moon is on a downward spiral. There used to be a really nice waitress here, but she quit for a better job. We talked to her on her last day. The main waitress now barley speaks English and screws up our order quite often. The sushi is really good most of the time, but last time it was sub-par. My ungai sauce was chunky with a really wierd consistency. My wife's order was wrong, but she ate it anyways and was charged extra when she asked for a side of spicy mayo to make her incorrect order palatable. This place used to be good. It's a small family owned restaurant and I hope they start paying more attention to details. It would be a shame if this place went under. I will go back in a few months, and I really hope I can change my rating because I want this place to suceed. Also, avoid this place on a really hot day; they do not like to use their air-conditioner.

This used to be my favorite restaurant 5+ years ago but not any more. We ate here tonight for the first time in a long time. The chicken was all random, low quality, fatty dark meat and cartilage pieces--largely inedible. The sauce was watered down. Pop and iced tea are $2 and refills are $2 each. Service was slow, waitress didn't bring silverware and didn't check in with us. We won't be back. Sushi House is hands down a better option. Too bad because Thai Moon used to have awesome, high quality food and attentive staff.

I have been to this restaurant many many times and have never had a bad experience. The wait staff are always rushing around but always have the time to answer a questions or to make sure the meal has been made to order. Most all the dishes can be altered to taste or have extras added to them. This place offers not only Thai but Chinese and a few Korean dishes as well. I have never been disappointed here and would suggest to anyone looking for a good meal at a reasonable price!

Strip mall store front off 16th Ave SW between Fareway and The MAC. You'd never expect it from the outside and walking in. They have remodeled nicely from last I've been there and they added the Sushi Bar side and more space and nice bar size with big flat screen. Decor is warm and Thai art all over with gold elephants and such. Deceiving from the outside facade. Family owned and ran. So sometimes under staffed and they work their arse's off to accommodate it. Staff has always been courteous and friendly. One thing I do not like is that I think the tables need to be more spaced apart. I like privacy when dining to have a conversation without feeling like you have to whisper to avoid people listening in. Bigger menu now too. Lot of stir fry, entrees, apps, soups, salads, and nice drinks and mai thais. Love their sweet Thai Tea too. Decent sushi menu too. And presented and plated nicely. I got the Angry Roll.... mmm craving more now! The Philly and others I had were good as well. I would like to go back and try a few other rolls, as well as some thai plates to get some good heat and spice. All at reasonable prices and comparable to anything else. I also saw another table have a table-grill-top appetizer I would like to see what that is and try. Looked and smelled delicious. There are a couple other Thai places in CR. But like the others, there are good ad bad that go with them. Overall, still a decent place and I will be back more often.

I probably should not have expected much but it is difficult not to with Thai being such an established cuisine in most larger cities. Everything we had was what hubby described as "midwesternization" of food. Making it absolutely as bland as possible so as to please those not as familiar with it. Nothing was absolutely horrible or made us sick, it was just boring. We always take our leftovers (for a multitude of reasons) and they are always eaten. However, we didn't even want our leftovers here. It just didn't seem worth it. The thai iced tea was quite good. Another disappointment though was our waiter had not tried anything we asked about. If you are serving the food, please have SOME opinions about it.

I probably should have known just by the fact that this place wouldn't be too authentic just by the fact that it's a Thai restaurant that serves sushi. I grew up in Southern California and I'm used to having a number of options for great Thai food, so once I moved to Cedar Rapids I thought I'd see what my options were. I came here a couple nights ago and ordered the chicken pad thai to go, and unfortunately I only ended up eating about 1/3 of it before I just stopped eating because it was just not good. The dish didn't even closely resemble what pad thai should taste like - it was more like chow mein than anything else. The noodles were wrong, the sauce was wrong, but the guy at the restaurant confirmed that it was the pad thai. It tasted like mediocre Chinese food to me. At least it was a decent size portion of food, but I'd definitely prefer quality over quantity. I guess it isn't fair to judge this place quite yet since I don't know what the competition is like, and I'm sure there may be other things on the menu that might be quite decent. However, if you're craving pad thai and you're used to having authentic Thai food, I really don't think this place will cut it for you.

It looks like a dump from outside. Once you get inside it's actually a nice place. They have two bar areas and hand roll the sushi there. I tried the miso soup and the garlic chicken lunch special. Both very good and my total was under ten dollars at lunch. It came with a crab meat Rangoon and small egg roll. Highly recommend.

Not a huge fan of Thai Moon after one visit. On the good side, the atmosphere is surprisingly warm and inviting, considering the strip-mall location. However, service was not very good -- we had a very similar experience what Rob R describes in his review. Our waitress was kind enough, but clueless. She forgot to bring rice with our meal, and didn't refill water glasses or check back after bringing the meal. I might be willing to overlook poor service if the food was outstanding, but it wasn't. Nothing wrong with it, really, except it wasn't memorable. The Thai menu selections are limited to perhaps a dozen dishes, although there are sushi and Chinese entrees as well. Overall, I would recommend Thai Flavors on First Avenue over Thai Moon, unless you're with a group that wants sushi and Chinese, too.

The food at Thai Moon is decent and the atmosphere is nice, especially after the recent remodel. But, be prepared to wait to get seated, and to wait again for any attention from your server. Unfortunately, the service at Thai Moon is abysmal. We've noted that they are incredibly inefficient, the servers are inattentive (we've waited for 20+ minutes multiple times just to get a glass of water), and the staff doesn't seem to be all that concerned about getting you food. The most frustrating part of the poor service is that no one seems to care. It's too bad that they can't get these problems fixed - because we would like to visit there regularly.

Thai moon isn't my first choice for Thai food in Cedar Rapids but it is still very very good! The tum yum soup is very good nice and spicy! I always judge Thai places on their pad Thai noodles and Thai moon does a good job preparing theirs. Could be a little more spicy. The sushi is good my friend from out of state was very impressed and said he was shocked to get sushi that good in Iowa. He was a little disappointed there was no raw fish. But overall everyone was very satisfied!

Close to home, but not our go to Asian restaurant. On recent visit I had the Crispy Ginger Beef and was disappointed with the dish. The beef was sliced into larger pieces which made it a little tough. Not the awesome dish we get at Sushi House. Wife had the Moo goo gai pan with chicken. It was just ok. The ingredients were fresh but the white sauce lacked flavor. The eel in the Unagi roll was chewy and could have been rolled a little tighter. Again not very good. The egg rolls were decent, it's hard to screw up fried food. I would recommend that you stay on the Thai side of the menu (it's the reason for three stars). The curries are better than their stir fry dishes which only get two stars. Pass on the sushi unless you're really hard up.

Why a 1 star? Cheapness! My colleague ordered an ice tea: $2, hummm but OK. Refills $1. Come on! All ice. What is this, a $1.99 profit on the first glass? The owner needs to wise up. Look at your reviews.
